Our History Ninety people assembled in the Community Center (Oakmont) in 1964 to form the first Methodist congregation in Sun City. The Rev. Duane Thistlethwaite became our church’s first minister. Two years later the congregation engaged architect Richard Butz to design the sanctuary at 9849 N 105th Avenue, Sun City.
In 1973 McIllnay Fellowship Hall, dedicated in honor of the Rev. W. McIllnay, was added to the sanctuary. At that time the church’s membership was just over 1,000 members. In 1973 the office and choir rooms were enlarged to provide more needed space. First Church is proud of our beautiful Columbarium located in the garden to the north of our sanctuary.
First Church is proud of its work in the field of missions and caring for people in our community. We support Valley View Food Bank, Justa Center, United Methodist Outreach Ministries and many other ministries and missions in our community and world. This church has always been known as a friendly congregation who welcomes all into our community.
We invite YOU to visit us, We’ll make you feel welcome…
