My name is Lois Hedden and I have been the senior pastor here at First United Methodist Church for three years now. Time sure flies when we are having fun and worshiping God together. I have been told I need to give everyone an update on myself and the church, so here it goes.
I still have two sons, Robert and Ben. Robert lives in Boulder City, Nevada, and has two children Lillie (7) and Zach (6). He is an HVAC guy and taking courses at the College of Southern Nevada…busy man. Ben is in the United States Air Force, a CMSGT, stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base (Wichita Falls, TX), married to Kat, and the father of Ben Danger (4). Both Bens are very busy! Lillie just finished first grade and loves school. Zach finished Kindergarten this year. I feel blessed that I am able to see them a couple times a year.
I share my home with two cats. I got them from a cat rescue place in Las Vegas when they were five or six weeks old, they are now six! They are sisters who look nothing alike. KC, short for Kitty-Cat, looks like a Seal Point Siamese, crossed eyes and all. Star looks like a cross between a calico and a long-haired gray-point with the Siamese winning.
I love being here in Sun City. It is a great place to live, filled with wonderful people who have a strong heart for God and mission. I like not having any evening meetings at the church! This is probably the only church I will ever serve that I can be home for dinner every evening. We are having fun exploring the Word of God in two different Bible Studies. The first is a lectionary based study where we read the lection for the week and talk about it for an hour on Monday mornings. On Thursday afternoons, we are reading through the Bible and has been ongoing since January of 2014. We read aloud and talk about what we are reading for an hour. As of this writing, we are reading in the book of Psalms.
Worship is the heart of our church. We gather on Sunday mornings from all of our homes and the events of our weeks at 8:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. We come together to worship and learn about how God is calling to us in the everydayness of our lives. We fellowship and share our lives with one another. Then we are off, back to our busy schedules carrying God’s Holy Spirit and Love with us after being recharged and rejuvenated.
I look forward to meeting you when you come to church. I must warn you, I am lousy with names. Thank the Good Lord we all have a little bit memory problem here in Sun City, so I fit right in! We also wear name tags in the church and will be happy to order one for you.
